Arizona Speeding Tickets
Speeding in Arizona falls under two categories:
- Civil speeding violation: 1 to 19 mph over the posted speed limit
- Criminal speeding: 20 mph over the limit or any speed in excess of 85 mph
Both offenses are punishable by fines, and pleading guilty adds 3 points against your driver's license. If you accumulate 8 to 12 points in one year from traffic violations, you may be required to attend MVD Traffic Survival School classes. If you accumulate 13 or more points, your license can be suspended for 90 days. Your insurance company can request your driving record at any time and raise your rates for traffic violations.
In many cases, I am able to plead a criminal speeding ticket down to a civil offense. Under a civil speeding violation, you may be able to attend Defensive Driving School and eliminate points against your license. A criminal speeding conviction is not eligible.
I have also helped many clients fight criminal speeding tickets to have the charges dismissed. I can discuss with you the various grounds for challenging a criminal speeding violation.
